Listening Analysis – Family Traditions

Speaker A: I do enjoy going to concerts now and then, especially when it’s a band I really like. But to be honest, tickets and everything else really cost a lot. Also, I’ve noticed that music at live shows isn’t always as clear or smooth as it is on an album. Sometimes the sound or the vocals don’t sound right, and that can make it kinda disappointing…I did try a music festival once, but honestly, the whole thing was super tiring and expensive, especially
over several days. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still fun if you go with friends and the energy is good, but more and more, I feel like I’d rather stay in and listen at home.
Speaker B: I think there’s something unique about the more minimal venues—they create a sense of closeness and connection with the artist that massive arenas just can’t offer. It’s like you’re part of the performance instead of watching it, and that really changes the whole experience for me. One thing that really gets to me, is how so many in the audience just seem to spend the whole concert or even the whole festival filming instead of actually being present in the moment. Also, I find concerts are much more fun when the audience is calm and respectful. You know, like when people aren’t shouting over the music or pushing each other just to get closer to the stage. I don’t mind when it’s like that but a nice crowd is better.
Speaker C: Concerts can be great, especially if you really like the artist. There’s something about live music that can be really powerful when it’s done well. Also, I think going to a live show is a great option for showing your support to your favourite musicians, especially now when most of their money doesn’t come from album sales. That said, I often find the combination of booming sound systems and huge, packed crowds really quite overwhelming. It’s not that I don’t like it when it’s like that, but sometimes it’s just too much. I went to a festival last summer and the crowd was intense—nonstop noise, barely any
space to move, and people everywhere. It made me think twice about going again. I’ll still go to the occasional show, but only if I know it’s going to be manageable.
